Doctor Cidolfus Demen Bunansa is a hume of Ivalice, 58 years of age, Cid is a tall man, often crouching over and eying at people and “toys” through small spectacles. His hair has grayed slightly in his age, but still holds a faint brown tint, grown out in long sideburns that connect to a trimmed beard and thin mustache. His outfit is mostly made up of purple, red, white, and gold, wearing a detailed, rich coat, lined in gold. Beneath the coat is a red vest, and beneath that a white shirt that can only really be seen at his collar. On his arms he wears a pair of white gloves that reach to his elbows, to where his coat sleeves end. On his legs he wears high-thigh white boots, ornamented in gold, and a pair of grayish-purple pants beneath. The only bit of skin that he shows is his face. The good doctor is thought to be a babbling fool, a scientist that had gone insane after he came back from Giruvegan. He is an eccentric sort, a mad scientist, really. He is confident and always striving, full-throttle toward his goals, working together with the Occuria, Venat; one of the few who could realize those ambitions. He is also a genius, and the reason behind many of Archades’ great accomplishments. He’s also quite often a bit dramatic sounding, very theatrical when dealing with life, especially when he is nearly trying to become a god himself. But towards the end of his life, he may have softened a bit. Perhaps, drowned in all his work and goals, he had become bitter towards his son, and that carried on even until their paths crossed again. Cid thought that he could still make use of Ffamran though, and took full advantage of the boy when he could. | |
The once babbling, but still rambling, fool: Strengths, Weaknesses & History | |
Strengths & Weakeness: Despite being a man of late age, Cid is use to having enough protection; hiding behind his toys, Ffamran would say. He is without them in Manhattan, but he won’t let that stop him. He is a man of science, a genius no less. He’ll make do with what he can find, and hopefully after raiding enough electronic stores and figuring out this city’s sort of power maintenance, he’ll come up with something of use. Maybe not quite up to snuff with his rooks, but he’d like to at least try and make some sort of “toy” (robot, heh) that will give a shock to the lurking crabs. Enough for him to make an escape. Like Ffamran, he is skilled with firearms. This will become his other means of protection, once he finds something that contains more style than the rubbish his son would pick up. He can cast the magick spells: Haste, Protect, and Shell, and is immune to dark related spells. He can’t cast these often in a day, and Haste doesn’t exactly “speed him up” as quick as it should. He has one other ability, which is creating a Physical Paling around himself that blocks physical attacks, but it does eventually fall. Presumably, if he uses the Paling in Manhattan, he better have someone else around, because once that falls then he’ll surely collapse as well. He believes himself to be higher than most, and can become very overconfident in himself, to the point where he would almost think himself invisible – though his death has obviously proven him wrong. Cid is, in fact, obsessed with his work. This is another side of him that, while he obviously doesn’t see it, could very well be the reason that lead to his downfall. There’s a chance that even in Manhattan, he’ll find something to obsess over again… though without an Occuria to aid him, he probably won’t over-obsess… Despite not quite being the babbling fool everyone believes him to be, Cid can still be seen as very insane, evil laugh and all. He will do anything to achieve his goals, and this is his greatest weakness. ...He is also weak against the spell Holy. :D In Manhattan Cid’s motives themselves are weak, as he believes that the city has achieved what he was striving for in Ivalice: reins in the hands of man. He’s a bit lost, and creating new toys may be the only thing keeping the old man going. History: For six years Cid has been working with the “heretic” Occuria, Venat. Before he had been the chief researcher in the Draklor Laboratory, and was the reason for many of the accomplishments in Archades. He was the father to three children, the youngest being Ffamran Mid Bunansa. And then Cid had gone to Giruvegan, and things began to change. Led by his research those six years back, he met up with the Occurian, and they together shared an intention to take the nethicite out of the grasp of the godlike Occuria. His obsession began then. When he came back from Giruvegan, others around him, including Ffamran, noticed his change. While his obsession grew, he made his teenage son a Judge, but already those around him believed that Giruvegan had made him insane, and unable to watch, his son fled from him. Cid was often being called a “babbling fool” because he was conversing with Venat, but no one else could see or hear the Occurian. He continued working directly under House Solidor, and his friend despite the age difference, Vayne. They wanted to “put the reins of history back in the hands of man.” He sees himself as Venat’s pupil, as they work in the arts of manufacturing nethicite. In his work, he ends up having a run in with his fool of a pirate son, while trying to gather the deifacted nethicite. And after they face him down in his labs, he escapes with some help of Venat and lays out bait that will send them to Giruvegan. He of course has no intention of going himself, and returns to Arcades to meet with Vayne. He and Venat are amused that the pirate and crew have already taken the bait and headed for the ancient city, and Cid eagerly awaits their success – they should return with a sword, able to cut the Occurian’s stone. He converges with them again in Pharos, where after finding the defeated Judge Gabranth, he hopes to egg on the Lady Ashe to use the power of the Sun-Cryst and calls upon Venat to join the power of his nethicite, bathing the area in its mist. He barely hears Ffamran’s calls and mocks him for running before engaging the party in combat again, giving them no pity. In his anger of their battle, he uses his manufacted nethicite to summon the esper Famfrit to fight, but it falls. Eventually, the party succeeds in Cid’s defeat. He tries to raise up his guns but he falls to the ground. Venat blocks Fframran’s approach, but Cid tells the Occuria to let him past. He doesn’t let Ffamran get in much, responding with: “Spend your pity elsewhere. If you are so set on running, shouldn’t you best be off, fool of a pirate?” The bitterness in his voice has dissipated, and his body vanishes with the mist. | |
